The People’s Community Mobile Health Clinic

Established formally in 2021, the People's Programs Health & Wellness Bureau is deeply committed to delivering accessible and compassionate healthcare directly to the residents of Oakland. Inspired by The Black Panther Party’s free clinics and Cuba's healthcare revolution, we embrace a community-centered approach to health and primary care, meeting people where they are.

Our journey began with the founding of the People’s Programs Mobile Community Health Clinic, providing various services, including primary healthcare, holistic medicine, and resource navigation. We recognized the growing need for free community services, particularly as Oakland's unhoused population expands and state social services prove insufficient. Despite current barriers to accessing quality care, like exorbitant healthcare costs, our belief is that the community can and should steward healing! In solidarity with New Afrikans and poor people worldwide who lack access to healthcare, our mobile clinic serves as an example of what community-centered care can look like in 2024! 

Beyond providing direct care, our clinic is a resource aiming to redefine our community’s relationship with healthcare. Acknowledging the dehumanizing impacts of profit-driven healthcare systems, we strive to deliver care and realign healthcare practitioners with community-focused objectives. As we build decolonization programs that work to free the land, healthcare for the people is essential.
