PEOPLE’S GARDEN

The People’s Garden was created to begin the process of building food autonomy for Black people. Food deserts have made it difficult for our people to have access to produce as well as healthy foods. The People’s Garden is our first step in the process of building food autonomy for Black people in Oakland.

In 2021 we harvested 300 lbs of fresh produce, filling up 700+ boxes for our Grocery Program in the process. 2022 saw us increase our efforts which resulted in the yielding of over 800 lbs of produce being put into over 2,400 boxes of groceries that were distributed to families in West Oakland! We also hosted over 140 community-wide workshops, helping folks develop the skills and knowledge needed to further entrench themselves in the movement for food sovereignty and autonomy!
